As part of Better Beyond Adventure, our ESG policy, we offer our colleagues an annual allowance of 20 paid hours to volunteer for a charity or community project of their choice. This initiative, known as ‘Reachout’, has been a big hit with colleagues, who this year alone have given hundreds of hours to dozens of projects outside of work, with the support of PGL Beyond.
“It’s a great way to make a difference in our local communities, get out with colleagues, and do something a little different. We know from colleagues that it gives them a sense of pride, a chance to spend time with their teammates and most importantly it makes them happy!”
Kathryn Beaumont, ESG Manager at PGL Beyond
With the sun shining in the UK, a lot of our colleagues have been lending a hand to their local green spaces, from community gardens to schools. Here are a few of the stories we’ve heard recently…

Members of the People & Culture Operations team helped Gorsley Goffs Primary School to reclaim their overgrown forest school area
“We are so grateful to have a volunteering policy to allow us to step out into the community and support a great cause.”
Amy, Director of People and Culture Operations at PGL Beyond

Members of the European Study Tours and People & Culture teams at Heyhouses Primary School in Blackpool, helping to refresh some of their garden spaces.
“It was a brilliant day of teamwork, there was plenty of laughs, sunshine, and muddy hands. It was such a rewarding way to give something back to the people around us. We hope the pupils enjoy their tidier, greener space for years to come.”
Georgia, Tour Consultant at European Study Tours
“Surrounded by passionate volunteers and wonderful service users, we got stuck into some gardening on the allotments, sharing laughs, stories, and a real sense of purpose.”
Scott, Resourcing Officer at PGL

Serena and Dave spent a morning volunteering with people with learning disabilities, planting sunflowers and tending to the veg plot at Haygrove Community Garden
“We loved being able to help out this amazing community project. As well as providing a calm, green space for people with disabilities to be creative, the zero waste food stall and free-cycling school uniform initiative are supporting local families who need it most.”
Dave, Talent Acquisition Specialist, PGL

The Haygrove Community Garden also runs a zero-waste initiative, where locals can collect fresh fruit and veg for free, plus browse a school uniform stall to support families ahead of the new term
