Last week, our Scottish residential activity centre, PGL Dalguise, was delighted to welcome Liz Smith CBE MSP (Member of the Scottish Parliament) for a private visit and tour of the centre.

Liz Smith is a champion of educational trips and learning outside the classroom, having introduced the Residential Outdoor Education Bill to the Scottish Parliament in June 2024. The bill aims to establish that all pupils in state and grant-aided schools will have the chance to experience at least four nights and five days of residential outdoor education during their school career.

The MSP has been visiting centres in support of the Residential Outdoor Education Bill, which recently reached stage 2 of its journey to being passed as an Act of the Scottish Parliament.

During her visit, Liz Smith was introduced to the REACH framework, particularly the UNITE! programme, a residential trip designed to aid transition from primary to secondary education. The team was also delighted to show the MSP the various ways in which PGL is making its experiences as accessible and inclusive as possible, with adapted activities and equipment for our differently abled guests.
