Our Founder, Peter Gordon Lawrence

Residents local to our Ross-on-Wye support centre may well remember PGL’s humble beginnings at Court Farm, in the nearby riverside hamlet of Hole-in-the-Wall.

Court Farm was the site of the first ever PGL activity, where our founder, Peter Gordon Lawrence, ran canoe trips for kids on the River Wye, giving young people the kind of life-enriching experiences that we continue to deliver today.

When our much-loved namesake passed away in 2004, we donated a bench for the local community of Hole-in-the-Wall in his memory. Last Winter, after 20 years of use by the residents and visiting ramblers, the bench was finally decommissioned, and PGL pledged to replace it.

We’re very happy to say that we’ve installed a new bench just in time for Spring, and this one is made of recycled plastics! This choice of material is not only sustainable, but it’s longer lasting and easier to clean, so visitors can enjoy one of Peter Gordon Lawrence’s favourite spots for many years to come.

Two people sit on a wooden bench in a garden, next to a stone wall and metal gate. One wears a blue jacket and jeans, the other a colorful sweater and gray pants. Grass and trees surround them.
